Principal News Term 2, Week 10

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our final week of our second Term, and today, our boys and girls conclude for their winter holidays! I’m sure you are all approaching the upcoming July holidays with enthusiasm, as our students and staff alike, continue with their management of tasks and learning, so enthusiastically. I imagine the solid couple of weeks’ rest commencing today is called for, to renew our combined energies as we return to Term Three on Tuesday 19th July for a new term, with some eagerly awaited events planned, including Sports Carnivals, and the celebrations of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation, and our commitment to the STEM Expo.

We were all treated this morning to a wonderful Assembly in the Hall this morning where our Merit Certificate recipients were acknowledged by School Community. Thank you again, to the Year Six Communication Council for their leadership and co-ordination of our term’s Assemblies- next term, we move to celebrating Assemblies on Thursday mornings, as we navigate the continued specialist language classes in Italian, on Fridays.

The majority of our boys and girls continue to look smart and well groomed in their Winter Uniform. Thank you to all parents who have responded positively to reminders about ensuring the children are wearing their correct uniform items, including shoes, tights and hair ties.  Please ensure the holidays are utilised to attend to any items that need to be replaced or purchased.

Learning

Learning from our experiences

I have spent many happy hours over this week reading the final versions of Semester One Reports.

I hope that as parents, you gain a greater insight of your child’s strengths, skills and achievements over this first Semester. In addition, the Semester One Reports provide information about what your children need to work at, in order for further progress and accomplishments.

I acknowledge the teachers for their many hours of work on the Reports, both in terms of collating their assessments, assigning grades and drafting and editing comments; all whilst dealing with their regular classroom responsibilities.

Semester One reports will be issued online today Friday 1st July.  All parents, (Years Pre -Primary-Year Six) both new this year to Sacred Heart, and those who have been existing parents over past years, have received a reminder message via SEQTA to ensure all accounts are provisioned to access reports online.

Staffing Information (Farewell and Welcome)

Earlier this week, I wrote to all Year Two families confirming that Ms Misty Waters, our current 2022 Year Two Class Teacher, tendered her resignation from Sacred Heart Primary School several weeks ago, citing personal reasons, and we wish her well as she undertakes a new chapter with her family.

I am very pleased to announce to the school community that Mrs Amanda Saraceni has been appointed to the role of Year Two Class Teacher for the remainder of the 2022 school year.

Mrs Saraceni returns to us after a period of leave from January this year, having been here at Sacred Heart since 2016. During this time, she has fulfilled a number of leadership tasks and mentoring roles within the school’s STEM Team, and is a very experienced teacher.

Mrs Saraceni will be well versed in the current happenings and structures within the Year Two classroom, as she was scheduled to liaise directly with Ms Waters this week, for the Student Handover, and the planning and records discussions, prior to Ms Waters’ conclusion today, 1st July.

Parents will also have the opportunity to hear more extensively of structures and routines, together with an outline of the remaining curriculum content to be covered, and plans for differentiation within the classroom, from Mrs Saraceni in Week One of next term.

I’m sure you will all welcome Mrs Saraceni back to our School Community, and that we will continue to enjoy a very happy and productive remainder of the 2022 school year.

Engagement

The promotion of positive relationships with our students/staff/parents

What wonderful experiences and competitions our boys and girls have enjoyed last week, with the Winter Lightning Carnival incorporating AFL, Soccer and Netball for our two senior classes.  Today at Assembly, we were treated to the report of our results, and the happy news that saw our netball team play undefeated throughout the day, securing the winners’ shield and trophy-Congratulations to everyone who played, scored, supported, coached and cheered! Our Soccer and AFL Football teams also performed very well, in truly wet, wintery conditions- a wonderful outing for everyone after the breaks in these interschool opportunities, due in part to previous Covid restrictions.

These occasions are presented as chances for us to continue to “Strive for Excellence”, and I’m sure you’ll all enjoy the photos!

Last Friday, the celebration of our Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus provided us all with fun, excitement and much celebration! A special thank you to our staff for their special efforts and hard work to ensure our Liturgy and associated Buddy activities, have formed happy memories for our children, in this our special 125th Anniversary Year.

The Parents and Friends Association is a hard-working body within our School, and both their fundraising, and community building and celebrating efforts, are planned to benefit all our children and their families.  I do hope that our Class Reps are able to reach out and connect with parents at this time, and keep everyone informed about the year’s planned events.

The coming holiday period will see the engraved paving bricks that have been a recent focus and opportunity for families to commemorate their association with our school, laid within the existing Gibney Entrance of the school.

Please see below, and on the school website, the additional planned P and F Association “Friend and Fund raising” events, and their associated dates for the remainder of this year.

Parents are asked to “Save the date” for the upcoming 2022 Adults Event- a Christmas in July Dinner planned for Saturday 30th July (Week Two of next term).

Our school is indeed a very blessed community, and this term has been one of much work and achievement- it is very easy to promote such a positive school community to our new and prospective families- please keep up these wonderful efforts everyone!

The July (fourth Wednesday of every month) P and F Association Meeting is scheduled for week Two of next term, Wednesday 27th July at 7.00pm in the Hall- entry via Harold St gate. Please join us to hear of the organising plans that are made all the easier when many hands are involved.

Accountability

Taking responsibility for the quality of our work

As most families have completed their obligations to nominate their payment plans for the 2022 School Fees, I’m grateful to them for their commitments and also, for any recent payments they’ve made towards their 2022 School and Tuition Fees.

Discipleship

Living out the teachings of Jesus

Our Sacred Heart children in Year Four, continue their preparations to celebrate that most special of sacraments, the Eucharist, on Sunday 7th August, and Sunday 14th August at the 9.00am Masses.

The Eucharist Parent and Child Workshop will be conducted in the School Hall in the first week of next term, Thursday 21st July, and our Eucharist candidates will participate in their Eucharist Retreat, on the first day of next term, Tuesday 19th July. This school occasion will be when the children prepare their own bread and “supper”, for a special liturgy, and enjoy many exciting activities that make this most special time, memorable for them.

Thank you to Mrs Julia Hill, together with Ms Renee Byrne-King, for their work in preparing so well for this occasion for our boys and girls.

Father Mark has asked that I communicate to families who may have queries or enquiries regarding the Baptism of students and siblings, that further information can be obtained from the Parish Office via email at:-

highgate@perthcatholic.org

In closing, can I thank you all for your continued commitment to working hard in, and for Sacred Heart. Our school is indeed a very blessed community, and this second term has been one of much work and achievement- Everyone deserves a restful holiday break!

I look forward to continued accomplishments for all in the school community, and to sharing even more positive experiences for all, over next term!

Many thanks and God Bless
