NAPLAN

NAPLAN 2023 has now concluded for our Year 3 and 5 students. The children were well prepared and have been very positive and mature in their approach to this national standardised testing. Thank you to Miss Danica Gullotto and Mrs Laura Taylor for their wonderful teaching and preparation of the students. Well done to all the students.

Year 6 Leadership Camp

In Week 7, our Year 6 students attended their Leadership Camp at Ern Halliday. Over the three days, the students learnt about leadership, accepting challenges and independence. As can be seen in the photos, the students had a very enjoyable time participating in various experiences. We thank the staff who prepared and supervised this experience to enable it to run so smoothly, particularly Mrs Saraceni, the Year 6 Teacher. We are sure that the experience will remain a wonderful memory for our students.

Year 3 Sacrament of Penance Retreat

On Tuesday 21st March, the Year Three students participated in the Sacrament of Penance retreat day.  We began the day with a prayer focusing the student’s attention on the spiritual journey they were about to undertake. After the prayer service, we read the parable of the Lost Sheep. It was heart-warming to hear the students’ insightful thoughts on the parable. After a morning full of reflection and prayer the students shared their lunch outdoors enjoying each other’s company. We ended the day in reflective silence, at this time the students sat quietly and took the time to think about their day and all the tasks they completed with reverence.

Year 3 Sacrament of Penance Parent and Candidate Workshop

On Thursday evening, the candidates enrolled to receive their first Reconciliation workshop with their parents. They were led in deepening their understanding of the Sacrament of Reconciliation by Mrs McGuire and Father Mark.

The parents and candidates participated in a variety of activities; each activity enhanced their understanding of the

Sacrament of Penance. They completed the various tasks set for them eagerly and with great enthusiasm, sharing their knowledge with pride.

As the evening ended, the candidates left the hall feeling confident in the next step in their faith journey, receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Harmony Week

Sacred Heart Primary School celebrated Harmony Week this week; a time to celebrate multiculturalism in Australia. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. Thank you to our students and staff who wore either a traditional dress or orange clothing in a sign of solidarity.

God, you show us how you want us to live.

You are love in perfect unity.

Help us to build harmony and peace in our world, by placing you at the centre of our lives.

Help us to build unity by modelling your unity.

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Year 4 Assembly

Today the Year Four students helped celebrate Harmony week and displayed different aspects of their learning this term. Ekansh, Harrison, Winter and Pippa led the school community in a reverent Harmony Day reflection, calling on us all to live like Jesus, letting the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body we are called to peace.

Oliver introduced our STEM learning and told us a sweet bee joke. Isabelle explained the importance of bees and how they pollinate the plants and help us and the animals to survive. Elizabeth took us on a journey to the Sacred Heart Harmony Hive and shared some of the student’s reflections. Please feel free to visit the Harmony hive in the hall if you have time. Ilaria reminded us that like bees, we also work hard in our communities for the greater good. Katie shared the classes’ Art learning and described the development of their bee artworks, using the art element Value when drawing their bees. Miranda was excited to share her learning using the newly leased iPads in Year Four, demonstrating the animation she made with Scratch block coding. Lastly, Kaleesi spoke of the four steps for the conservation of bees.

  1. Protect habitat loss by protecting native vegetation.
  2. Replace lost bee habitats in urban settings.
  3. Act on Climate change and do your bit for our common world.
  4. Reduce the use of pesticides. This can begin in your own backyard!

To top it all off, the students all performed the song and dance, which Mrs Janine Milicich taught them in music, Dolly Parton’s version of “Put a little love in your Heart!” Perfect!

What a wonderful way to see the learning in the Year Four classroom. Congratulations Year Fours.

Easter Liturgy

There will be a special Holy Week Reflection with the presentation of the Stations of the Cross, on Thursday, 6th April, at 9.00 am. This will be presented by the Year Six Class and will take place in the school hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

SHPSH Street Library Reminder

A reminder that located on the outside wall of the Music Room, and supported by our P & F, you will find the SHPSH Street Library – a beautiful home for books. Students, parents and staff can simply reach in and take what interests them; when they are done, they can return them to the Street Library.
