Welcome Back to 2023

We would like to welcome all students and families back to Sacred Heart Primary School for 2023. We congratulate our students for showing wonderful independence and resilience in the first few weeks of School. The students have made a positive start to the new school year and have shown a great sense of pride and commitment to their learning. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new students, parents and staff to our Sacred Heart Community. We thank our very committed staff who have worked tirelessly throughout January to ensure a very smooth start to the year for all students. We also thank all parents for their continued support.

A Prayer to Begin the New School Year

God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin
this new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ash Wednesday/Opening Mass

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of Penance and Reflection that prepares us for Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. On Wednesday 22nd February, our Year 1-6 students will celebrate Ash Wednesday and our Opening Mass in the Sacred Heart Church at 9 am with Fr Mark. The receiving of ashes on this day marks our commitment to Jesus Christ and God. We want to show God that we are ready to turn away from sin, and doing the wrong thing, to stay faithful to the Gospel, by living good lives. Our staff and Year 6 students will also be commissioned to their roles at this mass. Our Kindy and Pre-Primary students will receive their ashes in the classroom during their class liturgy. We warmly welcome parents and family members to attend our Opening Mass.

2023 Parent Information Evening

By now, our parents will have received a link to view the 2023 parent information evening video prepared by the class teacher. All other information regarding this school year were either uploaded to Seesaw or sent home with your child. A reminder to please return the necessary notes by next Friday 17th February. Thank you to our teachers who spent many hours preparing for this event. We hope that parents feel informed about the coming school year. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition, e.g. anaphylaxis or asthma, please ensure a current action plan is provided to the School Office. All medications also need to be left at the School Office with your child’s completed paperwork. Students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will have medications stored in the classroom, however, the School Office will still need to be notified of your child’s medical condition.

Humble Hearts

This week, our Sacred Heart students have been learning about our school’s core values. These being: Belonging, Generosity, Mastery, and Independence. Children learned about what these values mean and discussed how they could demonstrate these values inside and outside the classroom.

At this morning’s assembly, students were introduced to our new ‘Humble Hearts’ awards. These awards were presented to students who had been seen demonstrating one of our Sacred Heart values over the past two weeks.

Congratulations to all the Humble Heart recipients, I am looking forward to seeing how many Humble Heart students there will be at our next assembly!

This will help our Year Five and Six students to prepare for the Tennis/Cricket Lightning Carnival at the end of this term.

Dear Sacred Heart families, I would like to welcome you back for another year and a special welcome to the new families who have joined our school community. The Catholic Church teaches that the greatest expression of human dignity is found in Jesus Christ. Jesus, Himself says, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (Jn 14:6). The closer we come to Christ the more we mature in love and goodness. As parents, you are the primary educators of your children. The beauty of Catholic education is you have the support of the school and the parish to help you in your vocation as parent. I would be happy to meet you after one of our parish masses. I pray 2023 will be a blessed year for you and your family. God bless. Fr. Mark
