Cyber Safety Parent Workshop

Last week, parents and teachers attended the ySafe Cyber Safety Parent workshop. The feedback from parents has been very positive. The ySafe presenter discussed many relevant social media, gaming and internet topics. She also discussed issues around technology use for children ranging from 4 years old to the early teens. We would like to thank all the parents who attended this informative evening and appreciate the support in keeping the students at Sacred Heart safe online. A reminder to all parents to remember the ABC of cyber safety management and to attempt at least one of the strategies, or all three to be most effective.

  • Control ACCESS
  • Set BOUNDARIES
  • Openly COMMUNICATE

YSafe student workshops were also conducted with our Years 3-6 students.

Family Breakfast

Thank you to Sacred Heart’s P and F and parent helpers for organising a very enjoyable Family Breakfast last Friday. The school community enjoyed breakfast, coffee, activities and even a friendly ‘tug-of-war’ competition!

Years 1 and 2 Excursion: Constable Care Safety School

Earlier this week, our Year 1 and Year 2 students visited the Constable Care Safety School in Maylands. The safety school has a realistic layout of Perth’s streets that provides students with a hands-on opportunity to learn vital pedestrian, bicycle and public transport travel safety skills. Whilst on the excursion, our students were complimented for their exemplary manners and listening skills. Thank you to the teachers, staff and parent helpers who assisted on this excursion.

Kindy Assembly

The Kindy class will be presenting at the school assembly on Friday 24th September, at 8.45am, in the Hall.

SHPSH STEM HUB

Woodside Incursion

As part of our commitment to STEM Education and ongoing collaboration with Woodside, our Years 3-6 students had so much fun when Martha, a subsea engineer, and Janelle, a chemical engineer, both from Woodside came to visit SHPSH today. The students had an opportunity to use VR Headsets to virtually experience Woodside’s offshore facilities including some of their drilling rigs, FPSO’s (drilling boats), and gas plants. The students also engaged in a brainstorming session around possible STEM-related careers.

Robogals Incursion

On Monday, our years 4-6 girls participated in a Robogals incursion. Robogals is a student-run organisation, available through UWA, that aims to inspire and empower young women to consider studying engineering and related fields. The girls gained first-hand experience programming the Mindstorm Robots in collaborative groups. In a concurrent session, run by our Sacred Heart teaching staff, our years 4-6 boys participated in an engaging session using Minecraft Education.

Sacred Heart Faction Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday, August 31, the Year 1-6 students participated in a very successful Sacred Heart Faction Athletics Carnival. Despite getting a little bit wet, students had great fun running, balancing, hurdling and dribbling for their faction. Congratulations to Hewitt, who was the winning faction on the day and Taylor, for taking out the Spirit award.

A special mention must go to the staff and parent volunteers who made the event run so smoothly. From the get-go, the Sacred Heart community team spirit was on full show.

Congratulations to all our students for their skill and enthusiasm, especially to our Champion and Runner Up Boys and Girls.

Social Worker Notice

R U OK Day on Thursday reminds us of the Keeping Safe Curriculum message we send to our students – of their right to feel safe and that they can talk with safe adults – their network people, about anything no matter what it is. Please take a look at the links below.  The first clip is one that you can share with your children and the second is a link to R U OK 2021 with a wealth of information, support and resources.

Host an Event on R U OK? Day

R U OK? is a suicide prevention charity inspiring Australians to start life-changing conversations, when they’re needed most. R U OK? Day is held on the second Thursday in September every year. Help spread the message by hosting an event at your school, university, TAFE, workplace, or community group.

Friendship Day

What a glorious day we had to celebrate Friendship Day.  As the sun shone over us, we gathered together in the hall to Acknowledge our First Peoples and then to “Celebrate” with the help of children around the world coming together in song, dance and musical skill.

Our students returned to class to partake in activities to promote and build foundations for our relationships with each other.  Thank you to the parents and guests who stayed on in the hall and listened to me explaining about what it means for us at Sacred Heart to be a Urstrong School.

Remember you have the opportunity to have free membership and learn about how you can support your children in their learning.  We seek to create a culture of kindness as a school community.  Watch out too for information from your children’s teacher about the Urstrong Programme.

Family Breakfast

The inaugural Family Friday Breakfast, held last week, was a great success. The usual Father’s Day brekky was changed up this year to include Mum’s too who, due to COVID had their special breakfast scuppered two years in a row.

A delicious breakfast of warm croissants, pastries and more was complemented by piping hot coffee from the two coffee vans on hand to make sure no one was waiting too long for the most important drink of the day. Parents and kids alike enjoyed the chance to catch up with friends and partake in a friendly game of tug-of-war.

A big thanks must go out to the Year 4 parents who organised, baked, served food on the day and decorated the hall for the event. It was a really lovely and well-run occasion.
