Project Compassion 2021

A big thank you to the Sacred Heart students and families who gave a total of $1,000 to Project Compassion for 2021.  Wow! A cheque for this amount will be presented to Caritas in the near future. A thank you to the Year 6, Term 1 Pastoral Care Council for all of their hard work in helping to promote this appeal, and for bringing Caritas’ featured stories of the poor and marginalised weekly to the students at our assemblies. Well done, Sacred Heart Community!

LifeLink Day 2021

Archbishop Costelloe SDB has warmly invited primary schools in the Archdiocese of Perth to join together to participate in LifeLink Day 2021. Students are invited to make a gold coin donation for LifeLink Day, which is launched early June, and we will invite all students to participate in a ‘Crazy Hair Day by wearing crazy hairstyles (coloured hair-spray allowed) to school on Friday 21st May. All gold coins collected on this day will go directly to the LifeLink agencies. We are looking forward to everyone’s support for LifeLink on this day.

SHPSH Street Library

Located on the outside wall to our school library, and supported by our P & F, you will find the SHPSH Street Library – a beautiful home for books. Students, parents and staff can simply reach in and take what interests them; when they are done, they can return them to the Street Library. If anyone has a book or two that they think others would enjoy, they can just pop it into our Street Library when they happen to be walking past.

Spotlight on ex-student Anthony

Last month, one of our SHPSH graduates (2016) was recognised as City of Vincent’s Youth Week Heroes. Here is what the City of Vincent had to say about Anthony:

Whenever and wherever help is needed, Anthony is always the first to volunteer.

This Aranmore student and Vincent local is known at his school for helping with events and projects such as the drama production and student Open Day.

Anthony is an outstanding role model for his peers and younger students. He is a wonderful example of a generous, community-minded young person who puts the welfare and happiness of others before himself.

Well done and congratulations Anthony! The SHPSH community is proud of you!

Term 2 STEM and Coding Club

Last Monday we launched our inaugural After-School STEM and Coding Club for our Years 3-6 students. With an overwhelming number of students choosing to join the club, we have 53 students enrolled for the term. Our students are mastering coding skills using tech and no-tech over the coming weeks before moving on to the STEM component. We have been very impressed with the students’ enthusiasm and problem-solving skills. Keep up the excellent work!

Junior LEGO Club

Our Years 1 and 2 students have been enjoying their lunchtime LEGO sessions this term. In small groups, they are working on creating famous landmarks around the world. Have a look at some of their amazing creations so far!

STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Through STEM, children learn to:

  • ask questions
  • work together
  • think creatively
  • solve problems
  • explore
  • take calculated risks
  • test solutions
  • discover new ways of doing things.

As your child’s first teacher, you can start building their STEM skills from an early age, creating a solid foundation for future learning. By encouraging your child to play, explore and investigate, you are helping them become active participants in their own learning (DETWA, 2017).

  • Focus on hands-on projects
  • Include real-world problems
  • Let kids control the activity
  • Explore and have fun!

Design a toy that has one or more moving parts.

Email any of your STEM at Home Project photos to Mrs Perlini:

Have fun!
