Project Compassion Story – Week 5

Halima is our Week 5 Project Compassion story. Halima is raising two children under seven in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, while caring for her mother who has a disability.

Caritas Australia helped Halima out with a shelter and cooking equipment so that she could feed her family. She participated in hygiene and sanitation training and took on the role of community trainer herself, organising the cleaning of washrooms, wells and toilets.

Halima is proud that she is able to earn a small income, while maintaining the health of her family and the cleanliness of the camp community.

Project Compassion Boxes 2021 – Return of Boxes

Thank you to all our families for supporting Caritas’ Project Compassion Appeal this year. All collection boxes at home are to please be returned to your child’s class teacher by the end of Week 1, Term 2. The Pastoral Care Council will then collect up these boxes and forward these to the school office for counting. As a school, the collective total of these donations will be given to Caritas. Thank you in advance for your generosity and concern for the less fortunate members of our society by supporting this Appeal, which helps empower the world’s poorest communities to create real and lasting change and improve their lives.

Easter Liturgy

On Wednesday this week, our Year Six Class led the school in a Holy Week Reflection. We thank Mrs Adair, Mrs Wyre and the Year Sixes for the wonderful preparation and performance. We would like to also acknowledge Mrs Saraceni and the other teachers and students for their preparation. We commend all classes on their reverent behaviour during this very holy and reflective time.

Early Years Mathematical Kits

Mrs Perlini would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for their time and help with preparing resources for our Early Years Mathematical Kits. It would be wonderful if all resources currently being worked on are returned on the first day of Term.  Mrs Perlini will then organise a time early in Term 2 to assemble the kits at school.

Parent Term Planner

To keep parents informed with up-to-date information, the Term 2 Planner is now available on the school website. Please check the website regularly as the planner will be updated when required.

NAPLAN: Term 2, Week 4

In the lead up to NAPLAN, which will take place in Week 4 of Term 2 (commencing the 10th May), a reminder for parents not to overemphasise these tests and to avoid undue stress. In addition, we ask that parents of children in the Year 3 and 5 classes avoid any appointments or activities that may result in interruptions to the class during this week. Thank you for your support with this.

A prayer for Holy Week

Lord Jesus Christ,
in this sacred and solemn week
when we see again
the depth and mystery of your redeeming love,
help us to follow where you go,
to stop where you stumble,
to listen when you cry,
to hurt as you suffer,
to bow our heads in sorrow as you die,
so that, when you are raised to life again,
we may share in your endless joy. Amen.

We wish all our students and families a very happy and holy Easter. Please take care over the Easter Break. We thank you for all your support this term.

Mrs Carolyn Perlini and Mrs Nerissa Angwin (Assistant Principals)
