Socktober 2020

Last Friday, Sacred Heart celebrated Crazy Sock Day to raise awareness and funds for Catholic Mission to support people living in poverty. As an initiative of the Year Six Pastoral Care Council, our students made and played with a sports ball made entirely from newspaper, plastic, rags and string to gain an understanding and appreciation of what it might be like to not be able to afford play items. As a school, we raised $312.90 for Catholic Mission. Thank you, Sacred Heart, for your generosity and thank you to our Sacred Heart Pastoral Care Council for their organisation of this day.

Book Week 2020

Each year across Australia, The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Children’s Book Week. The 2020 theme for this week was: Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.

Our students were invited to come dressed to school as their favourite book character for a special Book Week Parade on Monday. Following the parade, our students participated in a special book-sharing session with their class buddies. Throughout Book Week, teachers shared the short-listed books with their students and conducted activities relating to this year’s theme to highlight the importance of reading. Throughout the week, our students enjoyed visits from two children’s book authors and on Thursday our students enjoyed a special Book Week Incursion presented by Perform Education. You can support Book Week by reading and sharing books with your child at home. Please enjoy some photos of our students from this year’s Book Week.

Founders Week 2020

This week, we celebrated our school’s 123rd birthday. Our staff and students took part in numerous planned activities and discovered more about our school’s history. Thursday saw the students dress in our school colours, showing everything red, white and blue from their wardrobe and enjoyed a Movie Afternoon, complete with popcorn and juice. This year we have continued our tradition of raising money for our Sister School in Southern India with a School Raffle. Congratulation to the Raffle winners:

1st – Laila (Kindergarten)

2nd – Megan (Year 4)

3rd – Ekansh (Year 1)

The Sacred Heart gifts of generosity and kindness will be passed on by our founding sisters to the students and teachers of Shanti Sadan School. On Friday, the staff and students also celebrated Founders Week mass with Fr Mark and several of the Sisters from our Founding Order.

All in all, it was a wonderful week of celebrations. Please enjoy some photos from the week.  Happy 123rd Birthday, Sacred Heart!

Parent Cyber Safety App- FREE

With funding from Bankwest, the Telethon Kids Institute has developed a cyber safety educational app designed to keep parents and carers up to date with trusted, tailored information to help them teach their children to interact safely online.

The Beacon app is the result of a decade of WA research on children’s technology use, cyber safety, and parent behaviour.

The App delivers reliable information backed by research and behavioural science, as well as ideas, strategies, and personalised support.

CEWA, through our Child Safe Framework, is committed to modelling healthy, respectful relationships for our students both in the physical and online environments. We would like to share this resource with you, our Sacred Heart parents.

The “Beacon: Cyber Safety” App is available to download now for both iOS and Android.
