Monday is a Pupil-Free Day (staff required to attend).  Students in Years 1-6 will be required to wear their Summer Uniform for Term 4 on their non-sport days. On the first day back for Term 4 (Tuesday 13th October), the Years 3-6 students will wear their Sports uniform, as this is their Physical Education lesson day. Whilst, the Years 1-2 students are to wear the Summer uniform on this first day back.

Academic All Stars

On Monday, the 21st September, eight excited Year Five students attended the Academic All Stars at Loreto Primary School in Nedlands. Sacred Heart won equal first place in the Engineering category, where our students had to use Ozobots to create a course and instructions for a Year Two student. The students who participated also excelled in the Chess, Poetry and English categories.

Although we were not overall winners on the day, we were winners in teamwork, sportsmanship and representing our school. The students demonstrated a responsible attitude and were a credit to Sacred Heart Highgate.

Socktober at Sacred Heart : Friday 16th October

Socktober is an initiative of the Catholic Mission that aims to ‘sock it to poverty’ to help some of the most needy and vulnerable children in the world have better opportunities in life and a hope-filled future. Sacred Heart’s Pastoral Care Council has organised Crazy Sock Day for Friday 16th October, to raise funds for the Catholic Mission. Students are invited to wear their CRAZIEST socks and bring a gold coin donation.

Music Rocks Australia

After a term’s hard work, our Music Rocks Australia students performed for their parents, families, staff and fellow students at a sell-out event. Well done to our Sacred Heart rock stars. We think you are amazing! All enquiries about this after-school program, operating in Term 4, can be directed to: dean@musicrocks.com.au

Reminder: Internet Safety Tips for Parents

There are steps parents can take to protect their children who use the Internet. Some are listed below:

Provide general rules for ensuring Internet safety.

It’s important to be knowledgeable about the Internet, because even if you don’t have a computer at home, your child can access it at school, at a friend’s house, or at your public library.

Create a family agreement for Internet use, including hours of use, which sites can be accessed and which ones shouldn’t be.

Place your computer in a central, open location, like the living room, so Internet use can be supervised. We recommend that students do not access their computers or go online without supervision.

Check the ‘history’ of your child’s devices regularly.

Term Break

We hope that all the families have a wonderful break together and spend some time re-energising and enjoying the sunshine. We wish you a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to seeing you all in Term 4, when school commences on Tuesday 13th October.  Thank you for your ongoing support.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Yesterday, our Athletic Team consisting of selected Year Three to Six children, represented our school at the Interschool Athletics Carnival. It was a great pleasure to witness the way our children competed against the other schools but also their sportsmanship on the day. A special mention must be made to the students who took the Sacred Heart team spirit to the next level by jumping into events that needed to be filled. They showed pride in their school and should be commended for their efforts.

Congratulations to Ruby Van Vliet for her record breaking performances in Turbo Javelin. Sacred Heart finished sixth overall, seventh for the boys and fourth for the girls. Well done to all of our athletes!

WORDS FOR WELLNESS – THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING

“We think we listen, but rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy.

Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.”                                  Carl Rogers

“God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.”

Mother Theresa

In the clip below Brene Brown describes empathy in a way that is understandable and a helpful tool for parents and carers to talk with children.
